Friends’ mission is to preserve the historic character, architectural beauty, and charm of historic areas within the City of St. Pete Beach. We live, own property, and visit the historic areas of the City of St. Pete Beach in the surrounding community and want to preserve this special place to make memories with our family and friends for years to come.
To be clear, we are not opposed to redevelopment of any kind as long as it keeps with the mass and scale of our Historic District.
The focus at this time is on current and future development that encompasses the two city blocks from 7th to 9th Ave in Pass-A-Grille (8th Ave CRD-EA) as well as the 21st Ave Business District. Our objective is that the City Commission clarify by law and regulation the authority and charge to the Historic Preservation Board to include that it reviews and makes recommendations to the City Commission on changes, demolitions and new construction projects in the 8th Ave Historic area and all other historic areas in the City of St. Pete Beach. Once the commercial areas have been addressed, we will work to clarify the Form Based Codes and Land Development Codes regarding single family homes. The goal is to eliminate the big box homes that are out of character with our charming community.
Communities like Charleston, Savannah, Fernandina Beach, Sanibel/Captiva, and Boca Grande that work to maintain their historic character have not experienced a decrease in value.
